Free pattern: Lacy Doily


Butterfly stitch doily



  Can you find the butterflies? This interesting and beautiful pattern tricks the eyes when viewed from different angles.

  Originally designed to be placed under a candle or dish, the pattern saves time by starting with a large ring. Doily measures 16" across.

Skill level:
Easy/Intermediate


Materials:
Crochet hook size J/10-6.00MM
Worsted weight (4) acrylic yarn
Color A: Black
Color B: Burgundy
Tapestry needle or smaller hook to weave in ends

Gauge:
In 2" x 2" (5 cm x 5 cm) : 8 sts, 2 rows
Butterfly stitch:
Keeping yarn in back, insert hook from back to front under ch-5 sp of row 3. Grab yarn with hook, pull up loop about 1" (2.5 cm) high from front to back. Yarn over, pull through all 3 loops on hook.




Directions:
Ch 15, join to beg ch with a sl st.

Row 1:
Ch 4. 1 tr in same st. 2 tr in each st around. (30 tr)

Row 2:
Ch 4, 1 tr in same st, ch 1. *Sk 1 st, 2 tr in next st. Ch 1.* Repeat from * to * 13 more times. Join to top of ch-4 with a sl st. (30 tr, 15 chs)

Row 3:
Sl st into next tr and into ch-sp. Ch 9 (counts as tr & ch 5). *Tr in next ch-sp. Ch 5.* Repeat from * to * 13 more times. Join to beg ch-4 with a sl st. Bind off, weave in ends.

Row 4: Color B:
Join color B with a sl st in top of tr.Ch 10 (counts as tr & ch 6). *Tr in top of next tr. Ch 6.* Repeat from * to * 13 more times. Join to ch-4 with a sl st.

Row 5:
Ch 11 (counts as tr & ch 7). *Tr in top of next tr, ch 7.* Repeat from * to * 13 more times. Join to ch-4 with a sl st. Bind off, weave in ends.

Row 6: Color A:
Join color A with a sl st in top of tr. Ch 5 (counts as sc & ch 4). Butterfly st, ch 4. *1sc in next tr, ch 4, butterfly st in ch sps, ch 4.* Repeat from * to * 13 more times. Join to ch-1 with a sl st.

Row 7:
Ch 10 (counts as sc & ch 9). *1sc in next sc, ch 9*  Repeat from * to * 13 more times. Join to ch-1 with a sl st. Bind off, weave in ends.

Row 8: Color B:
Join color B with a sl st in any ch-sp. Ch 2. In same sp make (1dc, ch 1, 1dc, ch 1, 1tr, ch 1, 1dc, ch1, 1dc, ch 1, 1 sc). Ch 3. *In next ch-sp make (1sc, ch 1, 1 dc , ch1,  1dc, ch 1, 1tr, ch 1, 1dc, ch 1, 1dc, ch 1, 1sc). Ch 3.* Repeat from * to * 13 more times. Join to ch-1 with a sl st. Bind off, weave in ends.
