The double crochet (dc) stitch is between the single and triple crochet in height. This taller stitch produces a lacy effect while still providing structure and warmth for wearables. To start, chain the desired number of stitches.
Yarn over.
Insert hook in 4th chain from hook. These 3 chains make the height of the next double crochet.
Pull up a loop. (3 loops on hook)
Yarn over, pull through 2 loops. (2 loops on hook)
Yarn over, pull through remaining 2 loops. (1 loop on hook)
Continue to the end of the row.
Now turn your work. Chain 3, again making the height of the next stitch.
Yarn over, insert hook in next stitch, pull up a loop. Yarn over, pull through 2 loops. Yarn over, pull through remaining 2 loops.
Continue to the end of the row. The last stitch will be placed in the top chain 3 of the previous row, and will look like this:
