Now for a shorter version of the double; The half-double crochet. Start with the desired number of chains. Add 2 chains to this.
Yarn over, insert hook in 3rd chain from hook. These 2 chains make the height of the next stitch.
Pull up a loop. (3 loops on hook)
Yarn over, pull through all 3 loops. (1 loop on hook)
Continue to the end of the row.
Turn your work. Chain 2, making the height of the next stitch.
Yarn over, insert hook in next stitch. Pull up a loop.
Yarn over, pull through all 3 loops.
Continue to the last stitch, which will be placed in the top of the chain 2 from the previous row, and will look like this:
