Bobble and Chain Baby Hat

(with matching blanket)

You can make this adorable hat for baby with the leftover yarn from the bobble and chain blanket. 
Roll the brim for a tighter fit when baby is 3-6 months, unroll for 6-9 months (See the bear below). The stretch of the pattern leaves room to grow. Finished measurements: 6" long x 15" circumference.

Skill level:
Intermediate

Materials:
Acrylic worsted weight yarn
Color A: few oz. Soft pink
Color B: few oz. Lavender
Crochet hook size I/9 (or size needed to obtain gauge)
Tapestry needle
Stitch markers (optional)

Gauge:
4" x 2" = 4 bobbles x 5 rows

Stitches:
Front loop single crochet (sc), back loop sc
Single crochet bobble: Pull up one loop across 5 sts (6 loops on hook). Yarn over, pull through all 6 loops.

Pattern:
With color B, ch 3, join into a ring with a sl st.

Round 1:
Ch 1 (counts as sc). Make 5 more sc in ring (6 sc). Join to ch-1 with a sl st.

Round 2:
Ch 1. Make 2 sc in back loops of each st around (12 sc). Join to ch-1 with a sl st.

Round 3:
Ch 1. *In front loops make 2 sc in st, 1 sc in next.* Repeat From * to * around (18 sc). Join to ch-1 with a sl st.

Round 4:
Ch 1. *In back loops make 2 sc , 1 sc in next 2 sts.* Repeat from * to * around. 1 sc in last st (24 sc). Join to ch-1 with a sl st.

Round 5:
Ch 1. *In front loops make 2 sc, 1 sc in next 3 sts.* Repeat from * to * around. 1 sc in last 2 sts (30 sc). Change to color A for last step of last st. Join to ch-1 with a sl st.

Round 6: 
With color A, ch 1. 1 sc in same st. 2 sc in back loops of each st around (60 sc). This rapid increase will create a ruffle until round 7 is worked.

Round 7:
Ch 1. *Sc bobble in back loops only, ch 3.* Repeat from * to *around. Join with a sl st to ch-1 (50 sts including chs).

Round 8:
Ch 1. *In back loops only 2 sc, 1 sc in next st* Repeat from * to * around (75 sc).

Round 9:
Work as for round 7 (60 sts including chs).

Round 10:
Ch 1. In back loops only 2 sc, 1 sc in next 2 sts (80 sc). Join with a sl st to ch-1.

Round 11:
Work as for round 7 (64 sts). Change to color B on last st, join with a sl st  to ch-1.

Round 12:
With color B ch 1 (counts as sc). *In back loops only, 2 sc in first st, 1 sc in next 7*. Repeat from * to * around. Join with a sl st to ch-1 (72 sts).

Round 13:
Ch 1. In front loops only, 1 sc in each st around. Join with a sl st to ch-1.

Round 14:
Ch 1. In back loops only, 1 sc in each st. Join with a sl st to ch-1.

Round 15-18:
Repeat rows 13 & 14. If not working ruffle, bind off, weave in ends. For ruffle edge, change to color A on last st.

Round 19: (ruffle)
Ch 2 (counts as sc, ch 1), *1 sc in next st, ch 1.* Repeat from * to * around. Join with a sl st to beg ch-1. Bind off, weave in ends.
